Crowdsided for schools
Last updated November 7, 2026
Crowdsided is a free would you rather game teachers use for morning meetings, brain breaks and opinion-writing warm-ups. This page is for the person who has to say yes: the teacher, the principal or the IT team.
The short version
- No accounts and no sign-up, for teachers or students.
- Students never type a name or email. They join a live room with a 5-character code.
- Class votes stay in the room. They aren't added to the public results, and each room is deleted 4 hours after it opens.
- Classroom question sets are written for kids and kept clean. There is no "spicy" category on the site.
- Nothing to install. It runs in any browser: Chromebooks, iPads, phones, the classroom computer.
What we collect from students
In a classroom room, a student's browser makes a random ID (kept in that browser) so each device votes once per question. While the room is open we store the room's questions and each device's pick, tied only to that random ID. No names, no emails, no accounts, no location. The whole room is deleted 4 hours after it opens.
On the public game, votes are counted with a scrambled (hashed) form of the browser's random ID, and a hashed IP address is used for one day to stop vote spamming. IP addresses aren't stored as such. Visit counts come from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
Districts that need a signed student data privacy agreement can email hello@crowdsided.com.
Ads
Crowdsided is free because it may show ads. Classroom pages and kids' categories are marked as directed to children, so any ads there are non-personalized: no ad profile is built from a student's visit. Ads are never placed between a question and its answer buttons.
Content
- Every question is written for Crowdsided. None come from users.
- Classroom rooms only offer the sets marked classroom-clean (kids, students, middle school, teens, the holidays, this or that, food, gross and more). Sets for couples and adults, and the "dark" and "hard" sets, can't be picked for a room.
- Games teachers make themselves (make your own) are private links, never listed on the site or in search engines.
- Spot a question that isn't right for your class? Email hello@crowdsided.com and we'll fix or remove it.
For IT: domains to allow
- crowdsided.com (required): the site, the game and live rooms, over HTTPS plus a secure WebSocket at wss://crowdsided.com/api/rooms/.
- challenges.cloudflare.com (for the public game only): the spam check on public votes. Classroom rooms don't use it.
- fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com (optional): the question typeface. Without them the site uses system fonts.
Students only need to reach crowdsided.com/join. If your web filter blocks the site, an admin can allow it right away and ask the vendor to review its category (we suggest an education or educational games category):
- GoGuardian Admin: a policy's Categories tab → enter the URL → Check URL → suggest a category.
- Securly: Category Lookup tool → Request category change.
- Lightspeed, FortiGuard and others: use the vendor's site lookup and review request.
Or email us with your filter's name and we'll send the request too.
Using it in class
- Live classroom room: question on the board, students vote on their devices, reveal the class split next to the crowd's.
- Icebreakers with host mode: no student devices needed.
- Free Morning Meeting slides (PDF): 40 questions to project or print.
- No devices at all? Project the Daily 10 and have students walk to side A or side B of the room.
- Question lists: kids, students, middle school, kids this or that.
